Wuhu, Anhui, was under the jurisdiction of the State of Wu during the Spring and Autumn Period and was called "Jiuzi" at that time. In 109 BC, during the second year of Emperor Wu of Han's Yuanfeng reign, it was renamed "Wuhu".    

Wuhu is located at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Qingyi River, and is an important water and land transportation hub of great strategic significance in inland areas, a battleground for military strategists.
